Dutch experts from DHV offer a solution to Sofia traffic problems.
As with most cosmopolitan cities, traffic has long plagued the Sofia residents and has been the most discussed social issue in recent years. With a significant population growth over the past years, the existing transportation infrastructure seems extremely inadequate given the rapidly expanding population and the many more expected to move in the up and coming years.

Surprisingly, Dutch experts from DHV have come up with a solution, a coordinated Traffic Management System (TMS) to the problem following a feasibility study to identify the needs and deficiencies of the current system. Mayor Boyko Borrisov initiated this project in 2006 at the Amsterdan Intertraffic Exhibition. The research is financed by the “Partners for Roads” of the Ministry of Transport of the Kingdom of Holland, with the help of the Sofia municipality.

The Dutch Ambassador will hand over the research material to the deputy mayor Velizar Stoilov today. The success of such а system, in addition to the shortened travel time of most residents, will also ensure quicker transportation facilitation for ambulances and fire truck during emergencies which have been experiencing shocking and sometimes fatal delays in the recent years.
